“What you wear is how you present yourself to the world, especially today, when human contacts are so quick. Fashion is instant language.” —Miuccia Prada.
Some people are overwhelmed by all of the fashion choices out there, their efforts come across as bad taste. A few examples are wearing clothes one or two sizes to small, wearing fashion trends because it’s the newest thing on social media, and lastly unkempt and inappropriate clothing choices.
While conducting research for this blog I discovered a couple of fashion faux pas. There is ratchet, a derivative of wretched and tacky. Tacky is defined as unfashionable, gaudy, inelegant, unbecoming, unstylish and sloppy. People do not always know they are members of this club! Sometimes it’s just having no style sense or not knowing what’s appropriate. Self- awareness is the first step for improvement. Ratchet is devoid of class proudly shouting out embracing a philosophy of no moral high ground. “Slutty, trashy a hot mess”. People lay claim to being ratchet as a badge of honor. There’s no hope for change because they see nothing wrong with their choices. Wretched is a person in an unfortunate circumstance. It’s not impossible to go from ratchet to on point, however, a commitment for change is required!
As we advance professionally let’s not fail to advance culturally. May your gifts and opportunities spur your growth into strong confident women. Your fashion choices should reflect these changes.
Fashion is a form of self-expression. Others view us on how we represent ourselves. There is only one chance to make a first impression. Your appearance helps others form an opinion on who you are before you open your mouth. Sometimes we are misjudged, other times we are rightly judged as we appear. Let your best self speak for you in your fashion choices.
Always help to keep it classy.
